I remember the enthusiasm I felt when I got my first DSLR (digital single-lens reflex camera). I became inseparable with that equipment. Every single event: every walk, joy ride, beach trip, coffee with friends – I had to capture those moments with my 5 tons of special gear. Three different lenses, neatly packed in the bag, for backup, just in case. Sounds familiar?
As my hobby started to evolve into a full time job, I started spending even more time with my camera. I felt oversaturated with the lens view of my life. I had to be careful and take good care of the expensive equipment, and it started getting in my way during my free time. I cannot but remember that old saying: the things you own end up owning you. Oh, and the weight of the entire package! I felt like I was hauling a duffel bag full of ever-growing collection of free weights that could also occasionally be used for photography. But although I would be relaxed without the camera, I started hating myself for missing out on some truly precious moments I was fortunate to witness, but could not document – because I couldn’t be bothered to take my camera with me. My free time was camera free.
I have finally found the perfect tool for my personal style and interest in photography – documenting everyday life as it is. With this camera, I can shoot street photography, environmental portraits, basically – whatever I want. Fujifilm x100f is a pocket size camera with a great image quality – something I was looking for quite a long time.
For me, the most attractive characteristics of Fujifilm x100f are the size of the camera and the focal length. The size is just perfect – what you call a pocket size camera. This offers effortless mobility and finally, I can take it with me wherever I go. The focal length of 35mm is what I use on my working horse when shooting destination weddings 99% of the time, so a camera featuring this specific integrated lens was the logical choice for me.
This camera offers a bunch of features which are not really important to me. The Fujifilm x100f menu is a dark labyrinth I never wish to enter or ever see again. I lost an hour of my life going through such effects as face detection, toy effects and other stuff which have no value to me. I barely found my way out, but I managed to set my bread and butter settings: exposure, shutter and ISO settings…For me, those are more than enough.
The most important thing for me is the fact that this little beauty made me fall in love with photography all over again. I am shooting left and right, in everyday situations: a dark museum, night cityscapes, sunny seaside, indoor and outdoor portraits. Using the integrated flash or natural light, the Fujifilm x100f is a handy companion with excellent image quality.
I will leave you with the photo samples, and I hope you enjoy checking out what this cute little monster can do, and enjoy some of my street style photography. All photos are jpeg, edited using the same preset I use for my wedding photos. Have fun and don’t hesitate to send me an email with comments, questions or anything else.
