Before I tell you about the engagement photo session, I first have to tell you something about this magical village of Grožnjan, just in case you’ve never heard of it. It is an old hilltop village that used to be a Venetian fortress. Today, it is a town of art and music, famous for its summer art schools and workshops, a popular jazz festival and many art studios and galleries.
But the most important thing about it is that it still looks almost the same as it did centuries ago. It is like an enchanted labyrinth from a fairy-tale, with narrow cobblestone streets, medieval walls, forts, gorgeous old houses and monuments. It is also one of the most popular Croatia wedding venues because the romantic setting guarantees amazing wedding photos.
I was thrilled that Ivana and Dragan decided to get engaged in Grožnjan. I feel that every stone of this old town is special and that every frame offers a different flavor of eye candy. This actually helped me a lot during this photo session.
You see, the young couple also wanted me to photograph their wedding and they told me that they felt a bit nervous in front of the camera. I figured that the photo shoot of the engagement in this particular setting would be a great way to get rid of the stage fright before their wedding.
While there was some stiffness when we first started, Grožnjan soon proved to be a magical place indeed. Ivana and Dragan were mesmerized by its beauty and forever cured of being camera shy. They relaxed and ended up having a great time, and you can see it in the photo gallery. It was also a great rehearsal for their wedding photo session.
I had a lot of fun, too. Grožnjan is probably one of the most photographed locations in Istria, and that is why it’s a special challenge for me as a wedding photographer. For me, every couple is special and I always try to find an original way to capture that unique romance in my photos. I think I managed to do that for Ivana and Dragan. What do you think?
